Grzybobranie AI

A phone app for people who pick mushrooms in Poland and Central Europe. The atlas, the journal, and help run on the device, with no account and without sending photos to a network.

Test version. Android preview. Not in the stores yet.

Warning

The app does not replace an expert: a mycologist (grzyboznawca) or a classifier (klasyfikator).

Never eat a mushroom based only on what this app shows. A model can confuse a species because of lighting, the age of the fruiting body, dirt, or damage.

If poisoning symptoms appear after eating mushrooms, or you suspect a poisonous mushroom was eaten: call the emergency number 112 or 999, or go to a hospital, to the nearest toxicology ward. Everyone who ate the same meal must see a doctor, including people with no symptoms. Do not give milk or alcohol to the person who has symptoms.

If you are unsure, leave the mushroom in the forest. Classifiers and mycologists at a sanitary-epidemiological station (Sanepid) assess a collection free of charge.

Source for this first aid: GIS, „Bezpieczne grzybobranie”, 23 September 2022. The app’s help section says the same.

Toxicology-centre numbers are in the app, in Help (Pomoc). They are not listed on this page.

What the app does

On-device recognition

A photo from the camera or the gallery is meant to be read by a local model on the phone. The photo is not sent to a network.

In this test version the scanner does not name a species: a calibrated model is not in the app yet. When a model is added, the app still will not give an edibility verdict.

Atlas

Species cards, a calendar of the months when they appear, and a key based on traits: cap underside, ring, volva or bulb, spore-print colour.

It is not a complete key to the mushrooms of Poland, and it does not replace a mycologist’s assessment.

Journal

A record of a find, with a photo, a date, and a place. The photo and the entry stay on the phone. A location you choose to save stays on the device too.

Help (Pomoc)

Foraging rules and a description of poisoning symptoms. Emergency numbers: 112 and 999.

Round-the-clock toxicology-centre numbers are only in the app’s Help section (Pomoc). Open that section on the phone. They are not copied onto this page.

Next to it is a short guide to cleaning, cooking, and storing.

Weather and maps

Weather — not yet

This version has no weather. If it is turned on, a weather service may receive only coordinates rounded to about 1 km. The exact place saved in the journal is not sent for that.

In the journal, “Open this spot in maps” passes that entry’s coordinates to a maps app only after you tap it. There is no map inside the app. If one is added, it will use © OpenStreetMap contributors data.
